About Palynotech
Palynotech is a materials solutions provider based in the United Kingdom, focusing on the development and supply of marker grain products for researchers working in palynology, palaeolimnology and other microfossil disciplines.
Our aim is straightforward: to provide practical, well-defined products that support specialist scientific research in a consistent and reliable manner.
Why Palynospheres Were Developed
Palynospheres were specifically developed for microfossil research by Palynotech in collaboration with experts in the field. The SG06 Special Blend product was originally developed to assist with the ‘Suigetsu Varves 2006’ project.
Palynospheres provide microfossil researchers with a much needed alternative to other marker grain products, such as DuPont NEM plastic microbeads, which are no longer commercially available, and Lycopodium tablets, the spores from which are not guaranteed to be ‘exotic’ within certain ecosystems.
Dr Tom Johnston Ph.D.
Founder, Palynotech
With over 30 years industry experience working with particles and their surface chemistries, Tom was approached by several leading palynologists to develop a marker grain capable of withstanding the rigorous demands of microfossil extraction processes and having physical properties similar to the target microfossils.
The result, Palynospheres, offers a ready-formulated, liquid-stable suspension of robust, exotic particles with a density aligned to that of the target microfossils. The grains are available in a range of sizes, allowing researchers to choose the most appropriate for their area of interest.
Palynotech was created to commercialise the Palynospheres marker grains and has been operating since 2013. During that time we have supplied Palynospheres to companies and research centres in more than 20 countries and across 6 continents.
